THE BARRIE SHARKS NEW HEAD COACH for the 2012-2013 season is Alicia Ramolla. Alicia started her career playing in the Elmvale Minor Hockey Association. At age 13, she made the jump to women’s hockey, playing for the Barrie Sharks and then joining the Aurora Panthers Intermediate AA squad. While pursuing junior hockey Alicia had the goal of receiving a division one scholarship. In 2003 Alicia was heavily recruited by several division one schools, and made the decision to accept a full scholarship to The University of Connecticut. In 2003, Alicia also represented Ontario on the under 18 team and played in the Canada Winter Games helping her province win gold.
Alicia played as a Huskie for 4 years and graduated with honors in Human Development and Family Studies. As a sophomore Alicia concluded her season as the most improved player. In 2007 she received the counseling program for intercollegiate athlete award for Academic Excellence. In addition, Alicia was honored with the Iron Huskie strength and conditioning award. In her final two year she was the captain of the Huskies leading her team to high national rankings in the NCAA.
Alicia went on to graduate teachers college at Canisius and is now a dedicated teacher for the Simcoe County School Board. Concluding her third year of teaching Alicia has enjoyed coaching numerous school sports teams including hockey. She looks forward to adding her positive attitude, experiences and passion for the game to the upcoming season and Barrie Sharks organization.

A visit to the Barrie Fire &Emergency Service Headquarters
The Barrie Sharks Atom A hockey team visited the Barrie Fire & Emergency Service Headquarters on December 6th in order to deliver gifts for Christmas Cheer. As a team building activity, the girls pooled their 10 $ donations and visited a local store to buy gifts for children in the community. The team and parents were greeted by the fire crew and given a tour of their new digs! They want to thank Junior and his colleagues for taking the time to show them around.
